Festival of Manchester

Are you ready to celebrate your city? The brand new Festival of Manchester is an annual event held in Platt Fields Park. It’s the perfect summer finale.

Welcome September in style, with this dedication to the diverse and vibrant communities that make our home so spectacular.

With a packed programme, comprising of three music areas, featuring performances from Jet Black dance and Manchester Malayalee Association to name a few, as well as street food stalls, poetry slams and light-hearted discussions, you won’t be stuck for things to do.

Bring the kids as a final treat before school starts again, and watch them marvel at the Great Britain BMX team, or let them burn off some energy on the futsal court. If they’re too young for running around, then the toddler soft play area is a perfect place for them to find their feet and make new friends.

When was the last time you embraced your creative side? Creative Design & Manufacture are setting up shop in the arts and crafts marquee with their own unique workshop. Here, festival attendees will be invited to learn how to embroider the name of a community hero onto a denim piece. These separate pieces will then be linked together to form a community quilt.

There’s plenty of people excited, you should be too!

To truly understand what the day is about, don’t miss the chance to catch a Street Talk performance. Ananna Young Girls Group and Anita Sharma will use poetry and stories to explore their identity and what it means to them. Meanwhile, LCB Language & Culture of Bangladesh is combining spoken English with Bengali music in dance performances for festival visitors.

Seated areas are available to sit and soak up the atmosphere, or why not try your hand at the yoga stall for a whole new way to relax? Mancunians are famous for our community spirit, so let’s embrace that the best way we know how…with a party!
