IoD Announces Launch of LGBT+ Directors Network In The North-West

The North West branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) will launch a new LGBT+ Directors Network next month, helping promote inspirational LGBT leaders and influencers in the region’s business community.

The new network has been formed to encourage a wider support network which embraces the influence and impact directors offer the community, and to increase the visitbility of LGBT+ leaders as role models.

It will launch at an event and dinner, facilitated by Matt Haworth, Co-Founder of Reason Digital, Claire Ebrey, Regional Director of IoD North West; it is supported by the Institute of Directors North West as part of its ongoing diversity and inclusivity campaign.

Speaking of its formation, Matt Haworth said: “We are delighted to unveil this new network, which will support and celebrate the LGBT+ leaders and directors in our region.

“While there is generally a lot of support for members of the LGBT+ community, it’s something still quite rare in business; there is a distinct lack of influencers and leaders promoting themselves, which means that we don’t always have obvious role models out there.

“Our network will celebrate and promote LGBT+ leaders and directors, commending the great work they’re doing across the North West region and beyond.”

Added Claire Ebrey: “The IoD is the UK’s longest-running organisation for Directors from all sectors, shapes and size of organisation, and we exist to help our members become the best Directors they can be. We recognise that, with the best leadership, business is a positive force in our communities and society – creating quality jobs, improving opportunities, and making our regions and nations better places to live and work. And we know that diversity at the top of an organisation can drive hugely positive results – from  increased revenues to greater innovation and productivity. Yet there are still so few Director role models from the LGBT+ community. We hope to celebrate the diversity we have now, as we strive to support the directors of the future.

“The LGBT+ Directors Network will have its first meeting on 22nd October. It will be a fantastic opportunity for current and new members to meet, exchange ideas and to discuss the potential of this fresh and exciting group as we shape our thinking and take the initiative forward. We welcome anyone to join us on the evening as we champion great people and great ideas.”

The LGBT + Directors Network is currently inviting new members and there is no prerequistite to be an IoD member – but a directorship or equivelant must be held. Further details on membership and to request a place at the networking event can be found here.
