Helen Holt is an International DJ & Talent Relations at Menagerie
“Manchester has been a great base for me since graduating here from university; I have built up a great set of friends and networks here.”
I have been living in Manchester for nearly 10 years. Being originally from Newcastle I came here for university, I then went through a modelling phase being signed with Boss/Nemesis Models Manchester agencies. This then took me on to a career in Djing taking me all over the world and the last few years I have been working doing talent/talent management/international event planning with numerous brands.
What’s your most significant accomplishment to date?
My most significant accomplishment to date is hard! Although I was in Vogue once! I there are lots of things that I feel are significant and being lucky enough to have been able to travel all over the world and meet some amazing Artists/musicians/models who I have been in awe of from a young age is probably one of them. Oh, and being on stage with Guns and Roses was a bit of a big deal!
Who/what inspires you?
I’m inspired by so many people and most of them are my friends around me, a few to mention are Karina Jadhav, she owns the beautiful hotspot/celeb haunt Menagerie in Manchester, she created this experience from all over the world and is the beauty and brains behind it all! Another inspiration to me is (my big sister) Nadine Merabi who runs her own international fashion label, dressing famous faces on a daily she works around the clock creating amazing pieces which make you look/feel a million dollars! Every girl needs a MERABI! Another girl of mine is Charlotte Clemie. She has her own photography company, which takes her far and wide shooting weddings one day and beauty queens and families to the next; she also manages to do this while juggling two baby boys!
Independence inspires me as I think it’s so important in this generation, and I think it’s a great lesson to all.
How has living/working in Manchester helped you achieve your goals?
Manchester has been a great base for me since graduating here from university; I have built up a great set of friends and networks here. From this I have been able to travel all around the world, one of my most memorable trips would have to be Los Angeles with Manchester United to DJ; I have Debbie Toll to thank for that! I feel after being here for nearly 10 years I’m practically an honorary Manc! The music scene here is also amazing! and have been lucky enough to meet big names as they come in and out for gigs, with a big thank you to SJM for putting the best shows on! Manchester really feels like home to me now and working for Manchester brands BODA and MERABI to develop and manage their talent has been a good learning curve and has allowed me to grow as an individual.
What advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?
When I was 16 I didn’t know where I was going to end up, and I still don’t know now but took every day as it came, I think you have to take advantage of opportunities and I always have, you have to do what makes you happy.
What are your business goals for 2018?
My business goals this year is to continue learning and expanding my knowledge, I have come along way from my International fashion marketing degree. I have also gained a lot of experience throughout my time at BODA SKINS another Manchester brand but thinks it’s time for me to move on to progress on to the next. I want my next endeavour to really let me take full reign and to help develop into a long-term career, so this year is beginning to look exciting for me, as I’m really looking to get my teeth into something new and out of my comfort zone.
Where do you see yourself in twenty years’ time?
In twenty years I want to still have the same mindset I do now, hopefully by then I will have a family of my own and maybe not still living it up in Manchester City centre! I will have found what I’m looking for in regards to a career and be happy in it, I’m not sure where I will be and NYC/LA has always been close to my heart! A time will come where my free spirit needs to reside and quit getting on so many planes! But right now it’s a passion of mine and I love being in different countries meeting new and interesting people.
