20 Hottest Startups Wrapp Agency

Steven Spencer is the founder of Wrapp Agency, a collective of fashion stylists and costume designers working on fashion and commercial projects around the world.

“We would, of course, love someone like Britney Spears on our books who is in great need of help from a team like us.”

What makes Manchester a great place to start a business?

Manchester has so much opportunity for stylists. We’re home to some of the biggest football clubs in the world which bring huge sponsorship deals to Manchester for their star players, as well as having lots of fashion brands based here and now a lot of the main TV channels are setting up their headquarters here. It’s a great place to live and work as the central hub for the North. Locations here are great for shooting: within 45 minutes you can go from shooting really gritty, urban city locations to the middle of the countryside.

What makes a great startup in 2018?

It’s all about passion and knowing your market.

What inspired you to start the business?

After being with numerous agencies over the years, I wanted to start an agency that wasn’t only great for clients but also for the stylists who work with us. We’re not a traditional agency who tries to do everything, we focus primarily on the styling and creative process and each job is crewed and taken care of in a bespoke way for each client.

What makes your business stand out from the crowd?

The fact that we’re a smaller agency that solely concentrates of styling and the creative process around styling and costume design sets us apart. We’re proud to have worked with everyone from Asda and Heineken to JD Williams and Jet2Holidays. With Wrapp Agency, each client is treated as an individual to ensure all their needs are met, whether that’s designing costumes for a TV commercial, helping concept and shoot a fashion campaign or dressing celebrities for red carpet events.

What surprised you the most when setting up your business?

I was surprised by how much support we got from other creatives in the industry who wanted to work with us. They loved the fact they didn’t have to sign exclusively to us as they would with other agencies. We like our artists to have the freedom to travel and grow.

What keeps you motivated?

The fact that I love my job and the industry we work in helps keep me motivated, along with the fact that you grow strong bonds with the people who work alongside you – this makes you want to do your best for not only yourself but for them as well.

How does your business help give back to Manchester?

We run a lot of work placement schemes with educational outlets to help young people get into the industry. We also support a number of emerging designers and help them get their designs into publications and out into the public eye. Attending local charity events like A-Magazine’s Umbrella Ball is important to us too.

What are your business goals for the next 3 years?

Traction with the agency has been amazing since we officially started and the support from brands and clients along with publications like A-Magazine has been incredible. Our main goal is to carry on growing steadily, helping stylists to develop along the way. We would, of course, love someone like Britney Spears on our books who is in great need of help from a team like us.
