Simon Shaw, the brains behind Manchester favourite El Gato Negro, wows us with new Portuguese restaurant Canto.
We all know that the city is bursting with Spanish dining options from Deansgate to Northern Quarter and beyond. Over the last two years Simon Shaw has established El Gato Negro as a powerhouse on the Spanish food scene, now he’s taken on a new challenge: transporting the Portuguese palette to Manchester.
The booming Ancoats area Cutting Room Square has become home to Canto, sitting alongside the likes of Sugo and Rudy’s Pizza.
Shaw has enlisted the help of Carlos Gomes, current head chef at El Gato Negro, to bring a taste of Portugal to Manchester. Drawing on his upbringing in Porto, Gomes has created Canto’s menu.
