What’s your most significant accomplishment to date?
Creating Dreamr is most definitely my biggest accomplishment to date. In just four years the business has grown from a start up working out of a tiny shoe-box sized office for two, into a multi-award winning agency with a fast expanding team who work with clients across the globe. We pride ourselves on pushing the boundaries in creating innovative products for our clients and are also now in a position to help other tech startups via ‘Dreamr Ventures’ which enables us to provide investment, technical support and expertise to fledgling businesses. Being considered a mentor and sharing the secrets of my success makes me extremely proud. If you’d have told me five years ago if I would be where I am now I wouldn’t have believed it!
Who/what inspires you?
I am inspired by Richard Branson. I really admire his entrepreneurial and philanthropic interests and approach. He places so much importance on surrounding yourself with a great team in business and in life and I couldn’t agree more. I feel lucky to be surrounded by people who support me and I really believe that you get back what you put in. I have an amazing group of friends, an incredibly close family and a great team working with me at Dreamr.
When asked about his business success, he once said;
“If I had to give one reason why I have been fortunate enough to experience some success, it would be my knack of bringing together wonderful people.” And I couldn’t agree more!
What impact does living in Manchester have on your work?
Manchester has a thriving tech community, and we all work together in a truly collaborative way. There are dozens of meet-ups each month, covering everything from how to obtain investment to how to end homelessness in the city using tech. There’s a great social aspect to all this too, which really helps to foster authentic relationships. I love the city, I am proud to be part of its great community and being located so centrally means we can work with any business, anywhere!
What advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?
I left home at an early age, so I think my 16-year-old self was pretty mature and was already business focused, however, I had a lot of health issues to contend with and so I would start with telling myself;
“Jack, you’re going to survive this. It’s not going to be an easy couple of years but you will certainly come through it stronger in yourself. Selling perfume made from rose petals seems easy, but real business is tough. Always surround yourself with amazing people and they will support you along the way and help you to grow in so many ways.”
What are your business goals for 2018?
Since stepping into the role of CEO at the start of the year my overall goal is to continue to drive Dreamr towards success, to grow the team, the offering and our position in the city as an award-winning agency
We have already had a great start to the year and have won a significant amount of new work with some well known local and national businesses and so we are now on track to reach £1.5M turnover. To meet our plans for growth we are further expanding our technical offering into AR & VR and strengthening our senior development team with some key appointments.
Another area we are also heavily investing in is Dreamr Ventures, a scheme we launched last year to help tech startups. We have offered investment to help qualifying businesses over the next five years, and excitingly recently completed our first round and have invested in a couple of new businesses which will soon be launching their new innovative apps with our help!
Where do you see yourself in twenty years’ time?
I’ve always been very entrepreneurial and couldn’t picture myself doing anything else other than running a business in some capacity. I would honestly love to be in a position where I’m able to finance and support more tech businesses, ideally on Mars with Elon Musk!
